What is investment Banking and which are the best?

A financial company that deals in financing business, market making, bonds, mergers and acquisitions, IPO, etc is an investment bank and the industry is known as investment banking. These companies are responsible for each and every financial requirements of their clients from regulation to implementation. It should be noted that an investment bank and a commercial or retail bank are totally different. Financial products such as savings and checking accounts, credit cards, mortgage, loans, etc is not a part of investment banking and it is not allowed under the law. JP Morgan Chase
 : The largest investment bank in the world with total assets of more than two and a half trillion dollars. It deals with other financial sectors such as commercial and community banking, insurance, asset management, securities and so on. They have collected the highest fees for investment banking last year which is more than 8% of market share. JP Morgan Chase was founded in 2000 as result of combination of Chase Manhattan Corporation and JP Morgan and Co and it serves in 61 countries. History of Investment Banks :

Before civil war commercial banks were no different from investment banks, after the civil war modern investment banks came into existence and in 1933 Glass Steagall Act was introduced which separated the line of work. However, this law was abolished in the later part of 1990, it was the period for investment banks to grow like a ginger. After the financial crisis of 2008 most of these banks converted into holding companies.

The first bond was issued by Dutch East India Company to general public and was also the first public traded company. Earlier investment banks were into brokerage, IPOs and merger but these days they have evolved and many other sectors to look at such as market analysis, wealth management, and so on.
